From there, they will be printed off and forwarded to the Canucks organization, where they will undoubtedly pass on our support to his family in this truly troubling time. Thanks to anyone and everyone who chooses to support the Bourdons.Bryan Thiel. CHICAGO–(Business Wire)–Fitch Ratings has assigned an ‘AAA’ rating to the City of Champaign, Illinois’(the city) approximately $9.315 million general obligation (GO) refunding bonds, series 2009. The series 2009 bonds will sell competitively on May 5, 2009 andare secured by the city’s full faith and credit pledge, payable from unlimitedad valorem taxes. The 2009 bond proceeds will refund the city’s series 1998 and1999 GO bonds for debt service savings. In addition, Fitch affirms the ‘AAA’rating on approximately $57.6 million of outstanding GO debt The Rating Outlookis Stable. The ‘AAA’ rating is based on the city’s stable local economy, strong financialposition supported by home rule taxing powers and a diverse revenue stream, andmanageable, though potentially rising, debt burden. The city is home to theUniversity of Illinois’s main campus, which represents the largest source oflocal employment.
Through conservative financial management and a historicallysteadily growing tax base, the city has produced consistently strong financialresults and has maintained solid reserve levels. Flattening sales tax growth andan increase in pension contributions to offset market losses will pressure thebudget in the near term, but the city has taken steps to maintain fiscalbalance, and reserves are expected to remain healthy. Champaign is located approximately 135 miles south of Chicago with a 2007special census population of 75,254 residents. The city has developed at anaccelerated pace as annexations increased in recent years in tandem withresidential investment and cooperative economic planning efforts withneighboring communities and the university. Employment levels, concentrated inretail and higher education, have been steady in the past decade. The city’slabor force in February 2009 increased by 1.3% compared to February 2008, butnot enough to compensate for both previous declines and the year over year 0.5%decline in employment.
